>According to lecture today, the average medical student gets 1.7 seconds to respond when pimped by an attending before someone other than the student interjects.

Quote from class today by the attending lecturer regarding being pimped “Take a page from the surgical handbook, speak definitively and look it up later”

Interesting discussion today about the future of medical education. There is a move afoot to to move all lectures online and not even offer classroom style lectures. The thought is, they would collect the “best” speakers for each topic from around the country and all the medical schools involved would share these lectures online. The student would be responsible for watching them at their own leisure or as part of a class. No formal time would be set aside for them. Instead, “group” style learning would take place as PBL (problem based learning).

Interesting idea. I watched 90% of lectures online anyways and frankly some of them were awful. If you gave me the best speaker in the country for each topic… that would be sweet.

About ER Jedi

I’m a resident doctor in Emergency Medicine and I’ve learned during the past few years that 1) I’ve had some pretty amazing experiences 2) I have a very bad short-term memory. So this blog is just a place for me to write about some of these experiences, from the ER, medical school, the wards and life in general. At least that way I’ll have some idea as to where I’ve been all this time. A scrap-book of sorts, a place to vent, organize some clinical tools and post a few good songs I’ve heard along the way.
